Wednesday May 4th.

Yesterday was very hectic.
It started with a meeting at around 11am with a fellow musician, Garry (also known as "Holy"). We spent about an hour arranging the song that we were to record during the session that I had set up at The Analog Arcade. I had already produced the beat and we both had already written our respective verses but putting them together in a cohesive manner is always a challenge - and we also had to think of a chorus. But anyway, then we picked up my sponsor, Tommy, and we headed down to Analog Arcade for our session at 12. We were set up in Studio B this time, which is a bit smaller than Studio A that I was in the other day. We spent about an hour and a half arranging and tracking vocals for the song as well as mixing it down with Jim Stewart. (For those who are not familiar with the terminology, "tracking" basically means recording, and "mixing down" basically has to do with balancing the levels of all tracks involved with the song - its more complex than that but i cant think of another explanation...)
But anway, after we finished our collaboration song, I was able to go back and edit a few of the songs that I did during my first session (because they sounded pretty sloppy initially), and I also recorded a new song as well.

So we finished that session up at about 3pm and we went to eat at chipotle (awesome.)
We then went to The X-Change on Coventry so Tommy could buy some new speakers for his studio (The Ecto Cooler) and we spent about an hour setting them up in the studio and making sure all of the levels were good with his devices and mixers. We were really salty at first because we thought the speakers were blown out because we heard a bunch of buzzing but then we realized it was just the woofer shaking the tweeter on top of it... (huge relief).
And then we proceeded to work on more music (as usual) - Smoke Screen (Tommy's group) is re-releasing their album "Imagination Beyond Illustration" with a bonus disc of remixes done by a group of musicians that they know. I was one of the 7 that they had chosen to do a remix for them. It was now about 5pm, and I had a strings concert at Hawken at 6:30, but I managed to crank out the remix in time for me to make it to Hawken.
Seems like the day is over? Nope.
After finishing up the strings performance at around 8:15, I had to head back to the studio for a 9pm meeting with Headnodz.fm, a website interested in promoting our tour and upcoming music releases. The owners of this site seemed to be sort of overly professional (if that makes any sense), it was as if they had never talked to us before, and they kept going on tangents that completely dissembled the productive conversation. And they also sort of didn't acknowledge my involvement in any of this, they kept directly addressing Smoke Screen about the tour and everything even though I was the one who arranged literally the entire thing and I am also co-headlining with them on the tour.
I sound like a whiny obnoxious musician right now but it was just irritating to me that they asked me to be involved in this meeting and I wasn't even able to get a word in.

(Welcome to the music industry Mr Musarra...)

But after the meeting I had a nice debriefing with Tommy and he felt the same way about the meeting. So from here, we're surely accepting help from Headnodz.fm, however we clearly have to tread lightly and make sure everything goes smoothly.

Pros of my project: I'm doing exactly what I love and I never get sick of it.
Cons of my project: There really isn't any stopping point on any given day - if any of this is going to work, we need to put the time in.

Side note: We confirmed a performance in Pittsburgh at an awesome venue called Garfield Artwork
So our final schedule:
May 17th: Garfield Artwork in Pittsburgh
May 19th: Long Street District in Columbus
May 22nd: Goodbye Blue Monday in Brooklyn
May 23rd: Danger Danger in Philadelphia
May 24th: Public Assembly in Brooklyn <<<< Super excited about this one.
May 26th: The Grog Shop in Cleveland

  1. Connor, yah man. I love this line of your blog: There really isn't any stopping point on any given day - if any of this is going to work, we need to put the time in.

    That's the ticket.
I can totally relate to the running across town from session to session to concert to meetings to session. Be careful, take some deep breaths, and just keep on knocking your daily agenda out, line by line, one thing at a time.

You are going to really be amazed how much you've accomplished when this month is over.
