For the past days (Thursday, Friday, Saturday) Smoke Screen and I have spent hours rehearsing and troubleshooting different approaches to our performances for this upcoming tour. For example, we talked about the possible inclusion of live instrumentation, or live drum and/or synth programming. When we're on the road it seems more plausible to be doing the live programming rather than the live instruments simply because it would be difficult to lug all of the equipment around. But for our Cleveland show, we will most likely include it.
I also had to make several phone calls and emails to make sure everything was good to go for the release of my remix EP that I did for Headnodz.fm (which was released on Friday) - finishing up the album artwork, making sure the promotion is set, deciding the featured song to draw people's attention to the project, etc.
And I was also getting in touch with our contacts for each venue on the tour to make sure we know exactly when sound check is, what other acts are on the bill, etc. --- And we are currently solidifying another date in Pittsburgh at the acclaimed Shadow Lounge (super exciting). I'll give updates on that as they come.
I've also had a few meetings in person and over the phone with Vince, the owner of Heart & Sole shoe store on Coventry, about arranging an EP release party. This was another sort of tedious business related task but after our discussions he agreed to let me throw a little party in the shop on Friday the 13th (...spooky). But anyway, I had to create the album artwork, design flyers and make the Facebook event and all that jazz.
Smoke Screen and I are also working on a brand new song that I want to include on my new EP (though this will be tough given the time constraints). Tomorrow (Monday the 9th) I will call Analog Arcade and schedule a final session - hopefully on Tuesday or Wednesday) so that I can finally get this stuff done and released so I can move on to the next biggest source of anxiety, the tour.
The first week was a blur. It didn't really stop (For example, we worked on Saturday too.... Is that allowed? I hope so...). It was definitely fun though. And my anxiety isn't so much about being nervous for the shows or what people will think of my music, its just pure excitement. I am taking a lot of risks with all of this (possibly too many?) but it seems like it's going to be very rewarding.
It's hard for me to even keep track of what goes on each day so these blog posts are sort of stream of consciousness and filling in blanks.
Good, Connor. I'm proud of you. Stream of consciousness is good, too. You captured it in the blog, man. Look, I'll come out on Friday the 13th to your party and check out the vibe. Let me know, as well as all of your friends in some kind of post so that they can dig on your music. Ya say..... one for the shuffle, two for the time, come on girls rock, that vibe.
